The weather is getting warmer and our bands are getting stronger! The bands of the Teen Music Workshop Program are all working very hard to put on great shows in cities such as Beverly Hills, Beaumont, Yucaipa, and our very own San Bernardino. Holidays are upon us as Teen Music Workshop & Soul Pointe are preparing for the busiest time of the year! As always, we are open for all students in the San Bernardino School District to join us every Wednesday evening from 5pm to 8pm at The Sturges Center of the Fine Arts in San Bernardino. We love to see new faces and meet students who are passionate about music and performance. We are excited to teach and learn, especially with upcoming shows such as at the Riverside Festival of Lights where we will feature a surprise Christmas song and more, Knott’s Berry Farm, and as the opening act for The Temptations. Our bands work really hard every week learning classic new songs by bands and artists such as Earth Wind and Fire, Beyoncé, Four Tops, Elton John, and so much more! We are excited to share more of our talent and again we are open to all students interested in the arts! We not only offer lessons in instruments and vocals, with the new addition of our Film and Technology class students can learn about film production and directing. Brace yourself! The 2019 Winter Season is here!
The San Bernardino Teen Music Workshop has had an exciting winter season so far! We had a Christmas show at Arroyo Valley High School, filled with entertainment and holiday cheer! We also played at Disney California Adventure and Knott’s Berry Farm, where we captured some amazing moments on camera, which you can check out on our media page! There is a fundraiser to raise money for the workshop at Applebee’s in Highland on January 9th. You can enjoy a delicious breakfast paired with live solo and duet performances from our very own talented musicians. We have a jam-packed season ahead of us, which includes an R&B Concert celebrating Black History, the grand opening of the Yucaipa Performing Arts theater, and the San Bernardino Art/Music Festival!
Fall 2018
Here's what you missed on the San Bernardino Teen Music Workshop show: We moved to the Sturges Center for the Fine Arts where we practice Thursdays from 5pm-8pm with our beginner group and on Sundays from 5pm-8pm with our advanced Motown group called Soul Pointe! We have two new and talented teachers: Miss Simone (the dance instructor) and Miss Desihre (the vocal coach)! If you're ever in the mood for some amazing R&B music, come check out The Soulful Sunday Brunches at The Rose in Pasadena. Some of the tremendous highlights of this past summer were our shows at Lake Arrowhead, the Ontario Convention Center, the Central Park in Pasadena, the California Theatre Of The Performing Arts, Knott's Berry Farm, and the Yucaipa Music Festival! We look forward to playing some more great events in the Winter, like Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm!
But wait... there's more! Alive in the Lights released their new single, Changes, on every music platform you can think of: Spotify, Youtube, Apple Music, etc! They also had an active summer opening for artists such as Patty Smyth of Scandal and Nancy Wilson of the famous Heart at The Rose in Pasadena.
Mid-Summer 2017
A little mid-summer update for the lovely boys and girls of the IE! Disney shows are postponed until winter of this year, but we've still been busy this summer with bands playing venues like Knott's Berry Farm, The San Diego Fair, The Hard Rock Cafe, The Whisky A Gogo, The House of Blues, and many other local shows.
EQUIPMENT UPGRADES
We've also taken the liberty of updating our recording studio with state-of-the-art equipment to ensure the highest fidelity recordings for our writers and musicians. Expect to hear more amazing songs and albums coming out of our doors in the coming months and years! Our live sound setup has also improved! With a full digital board and powered speakers, subwoofers and monitors, we can now rock at even some of the largest venues that don't have their own sound systems.
WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
One of our former students and instructors, Joseph Bergee, is away at Oxford over the summer after completing his bachelors degree at California State University, San Bernardino. Congratulations Joe! It's exciting to see someone who's not only an excellent musician, but also an excellent scholar as well.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR THE TMW?
A lot. That's whats next. *wink*
We've got bands continuing to play bigger and bigger venues, writing and recording more and more songs, and build larger and larger fanbases. We wouldn't be surprised if you saw some of them at Warped Tour in the next couple of years.
But that's pretty far in the future. We're still doing our thing, teaching the basic and advanced skills of guitar, drums, piano, and singing and bringing up the next generation of rockers. We never know who's going to walk through our front doors next and knock our socks off.
